Teach * Create * Repeat

When I was in college, I was lost.  I did not know what I "wanted to be when I grew up".  So, instead of taking classes from prescribed list of requirements for a major, I took classes that interested me.  At the end of my 4th year of college , I happened to walk by the teaching credential office and I looked at the list of required classes for a BA in Liberal Studies with CLAD.  I had taken ALL but 2 of the required classes.  WOW!  I took that as a big clue and never looked back.

My path as an educator started out very traditional.  I taught 1st grade for 3 years and 3rd grade for 1 year.  I loved teaching but wanted a family.  So with the birth of my son, I stayed home.  2 years later, my daughter came along.   I loved being a stay at home mom, but knew that living on one income (my husband is also a teacher) would not be a forever option.  As my youngest was off to Kindergarten, I was ready to go back to the classroom.

Trouble was, the bottom dropped out of the economy and teachers were being pink slipped left and right!  There were no full time teaching positions.  So for a period of 5 years, I  worked as an intervention teacher (grade K to 6)  and substitute teacher ( K to 12) . I taught the Meet The Masters program too.   No contracts, no guarantee of a pay check but lots of great experiences!

Now, I have been under contract for the last year and a half as a READ 180 Teacher and I love it.  Sadly,  have been pink slipped for the 2nd time and I do not know where or what I will be teaching next year!  I am while I know I will likely have a job somewhere, the uncertainty of the last 7 years has taken a toll.  I have no "home". I have no team, no Professional Learning Community (PLC)

This blog will now serve two purposes!  It will be my PLC: a place to share my experiences, my faliures and (hopefully) many successes.  This will still be the place to share my creations.  I love paper crafting and will continue to share my work with you.

So, there you have it.  I am off an running( again)!
